Gorge Double 50k Challenge, Prizes for the fastest Male and Female to do both Post Canyon 50k and Bunker to Bonneville 50k
|Saturday, September 2th, 2017 6:00am Carpool to start
||The start is at Whistle Punk Trailhead on the Gifford Pinchot National Forest. The course will follow the Pacific Crest Trail almost exclusively except for a 3 mile out and back to 3 Corner Rock and the last 4 miles to the finish. The race finishes in the town of North Bonneville.
This is a scenic ultra with plenty of beautiful views of the Cascade Mountains and the Columbia River Gorge. On a clear day, a runner will be able to see Mt. Hood, Mt. Adams, Mt St. Helens and perhaps Rainier or Jefferson. On a not-so-clear day there will be plenty of huckleberries to stop and eat. The race is almost all on the Pacific Crest Trail so the trail is well maintained. The last 10 miles of the course has some technical sections (rocky) as it skirts the shoulder of Table Mt. It has two major climbs, but is generally descending in elevation to the Columbia River. The race is in fairly remote, mountainous terrain. It may be difficult for friends and family to get to places along the course to see you. We suggest that supporters have a Gifford Pinchot National Forest map and a vehicle with clearance.
Even though the Pacific Crest Trail is a virtual highway through the Cascades, the race will be very well marked with flagging, flour and mileage.
PCT: Bunker to Bonneville is a demanding and incredibly scenic course. This point to point race starts at Whistle Punk Trailhead on the Gifford Pinchot National Forest, proceed south on the Pacific Crest Trail through NW old growth, over creeks and waterfalls, through fields of huckleberries, to 360° vista of the Cascade Mountain range, to end in the City of North Bonneville and the Columbia River Gorge National Scenic Area. The first 20 miles or so of the course are soft forest floor trail. The last 10 or so miles are rocky and rooty until the last mile of road to the City of North Bonneville's Park. This race is in a fairly remote area. Please take time to look at the website and the course maps and assess your ability before entering. $75
